Recently a friend of mine was greatly annoyed at the discovery that her son had drawn on his bed sheets with an ink pen. She washed the sheets but the stain did not come out. In an email she declared something to the effect of, “What do I do!?!” I don’t know if she was really asking or if she was just still annoyed at it all but either way I thought it would be a good thing for a mom to look up just in case. Here is what I found:
- Soak the shirt, sheet, or whatever it is in hairspray or in rubbing alcohol. Rub it in. Keep repeating until the stain comes out.
- If it is a white cloth you can probably get it out with a bleach pen.
- Pour turpentine on a cloth and then rub the stain with that cloth. It will stink, but it just might do the trick – wash after.
- Try a solution of equal parts lemon juice, ammonia, and water – treat it then rinse it and repeat until the stain comes out.
They may sound a little weird, but these all seemed to work for the various people who tried them. The most common method and the one that is preferred from all the sites I checked out is the hairspray method. Let’s hope you don’t have to deal with this, but if you do at least now you will be prepared.
Now it’s your turn – drop a tip in the jar!

I am so going to try the hairspray thing!
I have tried the hairspray on grease and it worked pretty good too! Thanks for the tip!

Happy Tuesday! Thanks for this tip! My son got some kind of ink or marker on a t-shirt recently and I haven’t been able to get it off. I’ll have to try some of these ideas.
