Tuesday’s Tip Jar

I’ve been getting a lot of emails about the candidates on both sides. Some emails are funny, some are crude, some are nonsense, and some are right on point. With all of these emails circulating I think it is incredibly important that while you are researching which candidate to support that you take the information presented in the emails and look it up to be sure it is true – I can tell you from having done this that the vast majority are not.

So, for today’s tip I would like to give you a couple of sites where you can learn a bit more and check out some information.

FactCheck.org – This is a great resource for checking out what emails say and also for checking up on the candidates and what they are saying themselves.

Snopes.com – If you get an email I highly recommend searching for it on Snopes and getting the rundown. They do the research for you and they are almost always right on. You can research all (not just for the election) types of email forwards.

OnTheIssues.org – This is a great place to get exactly where candidates stand on issues, their voting records, and direct quotes.

Those three are my favorite sites and there are many more out there that you may know of. The bottom line is this, if you aren’t doing the research yourself and you are relying on email forwards and other people’s blog posts to get you the information then you are not going to be able to make an informed and educated decision this November. Make a difference, Mommas! Know your candidates! Blog the Vote!!!

Now it’s your turn – drop a tip in the jar!

I use Snopes regularly.. Every once in a great while I blindly forward something on without checking and check afterwards, and I’m always irritated when I didn’t think to do it first.

I will definitely check out those sites, but I have been doing a lot of research as well. No doubt I will be at the polls!

I use snopes often as well. One site i like for election information is the League of Women Voters. I like their printed publication that comes out with information on all candidates, what they stand for, and even local election information.

Snopes is right at the top of my list with those randomly forwarded emails. My mom is guilty of those, and I always check snopes and let her know the error of her ways. She must be sick of me doing that to her.

What a fun meme! I”m going to keep this in mind.
